The City of Tallahassee offers an attractive Energy-Efficiency Loan program for residential customers looking to enhance their home’s energy performance. Eligible city residents can finance various energy-saving appliances, measures, and systems, including solar, with a 5-percent interest loan. The program includes more than 25 energy-efficiency measures such as energy-efficient air conditioners, solar water heaters, and insulation, with financing terms up to 5 years for most measures and up to 10 years for solar installations and certain historic homes. A free home energy audit is required for many of these measures, ensuring you invest wisely in your home’s efficiency. Loan payments are conveniently made on monthly utility bills, and the city offers a list of local contractors for installation, although homeowners are free to choose any contractor.

The Inflation reduction Act:
As part of the Inflation Reduction Act, enhanced tax incentives and a new state-administered point-of-sale rebate program will encourage homeowners to upgrade HVAC systems with heat pumps and high efficiency air conditioners and furnaces.
HVAC Updates:
- Up to $2,000 for electric heat pumps
- Up to $600 for furnaces (natural gas, propane or fuel oil)
- Up to $600 for air conditioners

The Department of Energy is expected to issue rebate program rules in Q2 2023 and we expect the states to set up rebate programs for state constituent participation in Q3 and Q4 of 2023.
